Some professional garden designers are also landscape architects, a more formal level of training that usually requires an advanced degree and often a state license. Many amateur gardeners also attain a high level of experience of working long hours in their own gardens, through casual study, a serious study at the Master Gardener program, or joining a garden club.
Garden owners have shown increasing interest in garden design during the late twentieth century, as lovers of gardening, a hobby as well as the extensive use of professional garden designers.
